Because car seat covers are an aftermarket item that are not safety-tested by the manufacturer of the car seat, we generally do not recommend their use while driving with your child. There is some controversy on this matter, however, and not all experts agree on whether they pose a risk.
If the car seat cover in no way interferes with the correct position of the handle and does not come in between the car seat and the vehicle seat, nor in between any buckles or straps, then it may be okay to leave the cover in position and may not interfere with the function of the car seat.
However, we do agree with the experts that a car seat cover over a baby can cause them to overheat or not have sufficient airflow, especially when inside a vehicle. If you do not choose to completely remove the cover while driving, at least unzip or otherwise open the cover for adequate air circulation.
One other area of concern if you use the car seat cover while driving, please remember that the fabric is not treated with a fire-retardant (as the fabric on a car seat is). So, in the event of an accident, if fire does become an issue, bear in mind that there is a greater risk of death or injury.
If possible, we recommend that you simply remove the car seat cover when you snap the seat into the vehicle, as this eliminates any possible risk factors.
